Volunteer opportunities in KOREA


Running summer art camps for students in Gongju
       Gongju, Chungnam          August 7 - August 20, 2009

Volunteer project: As an ancient capital of Baekje Kingdom, Gongju is a city of history, culture and tourism. The city maintains a number of historic places, fortress, tomb of king and national museum, and is attractive for visitors. The host of this project is Chung-nam Educational Institute for development of alternative education in Korea. Together with this institute, the volunteers will be working for the local children in this area. The aim of this project is to open up a door to a new experience for the local children and youths.

The international volunteers will help the host to organize two summer camps for the local children. One is for elementary school students and it focuses on making a play with the children. The other camp is film making with middle school students. The host seeks to provide professional movie camp. If you are keen on film making, this must be a great opportunity for you.

Language: English

Free time: Visiting historical sites around.

Location: Gongju, Chungnam Province; 150 km south of Seoul.

Terminal: Incheon International Airport

Flower Village Nature Art Festival
       Busan          August 10 - August 22, 2009

Volunteer project: Flower Village is a natural recreational forest located in Busan city, and loved by citizens as a tracking course. In this natural place, young artists open "Flower Village Nature Art Festival" every year since 2005. After the festival, most of the works remain here, and still communicate with visitors. This year many artists and citizens are expecting the festival, so it can be an unique experience for the volunteers to join this project.

Volunteers will mainly assist the artists to prepare the festival like purchasing materials and installation of art creature, or promotion. It can be special opportunity to communicate with young artists through this project.

Accommodation: Youth center or tent

Location: Seo-gu, Busan-city, approximately 400 km from Seoul.

Farming and cultural exchange with local people in an environmentally friendly village
       Gaesil, Gyengbuk          August 10 - August 22, 2009

Volunteer project: Gaesil workcamp is located in Goryeong, Gyeongsangbuk Province, which is four and a half hours away from Seoul (the capital city). Goryeong is proud of its deep historical root which begun in 42 AD. Gaesil Village was named after the beautiful blossoms and valleys in the area. Currently, the village provides visitors and tourists, especially from urban areas, with the experience of farm life. The village is also well-known for Hanok, which is a traditional Korean style house. It must be unforgettable experience staying in Hanok during the project.

The volunteers will help out the village people with their farms and facilitate intercultural activities with the local people. The main aim of this project is to give a fresh atmosphere and revitalize the village with young and international spirit.

Language: English

Free time: There are many interesting traditional sightseeing places such as historical museums. Volunteers will experience traditional games and activities in the village.

Accommodation: Hanok (Korean traditional house) in Gaesil village.

Location: Goryeong, Gyeongsangbuk Province; 300 km south of Seoul.

Terminal: Incheon International Airport
