Volunteer project: The objective of this project is Solving the lack of social, educational and sport infrastructure in Togolese communities. International volunteers are invited to help in the construction of social facilities in collaboration with the local community. The volunteers in this project will work on the construction of a multidisciplinary playground in Kpalimé.
The work activities involve clearing, masonry and carpentry. The volunteers will also support the experienced masons in specific construction tasks. The volunteers will fetch sand and water, and will set up the volleyball field. Some forms of entertainment and sports activities will also take place. The project will end with sport competitions.
Cultural activities: The volunteers will learn traditional dances and how to play Djembé (drums). There will be also an African day, dedicated to African culture, and a day dedicated to Western cultures, for the volunteers to present and discover different cultures through dishes, games, songs, dances, clothing, etc. The volunteers will also have a Day in a family: an opportunity to spend one day of integration in a local family and discover their daily life.

Location: The city of Kpalimé has around 95 000 inhabitants. It is situated at approximately 2 hours from Lomé in a beautiful natural environment. We are in the heart of Cocoa and Coffee Country. The zone surrounding the city is rich and fertile, surrounded by mountains and thick woods, deep valleys and small peaceful villages. The landscape always remains green even during the dry season. Despite the intense agricultural development, the region of Kpalimé has preserved some of the most attractive forests of Togo that are abundant in mahoganies, wawas and irokos. Numerous natural waterfalls will allow you to swim and relax at the water's edge. A lively market is held on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The inhabitants come from all over the region to sell their products and to shop. The market offers many exotic fruits. Kpalimé is also the most important crafts center of the country where many artists and craftsmen settled down: woodcarvers, potters, weavers…. Kpalimé has all basic infrastructures.

Building a library for the people

The volunteers will take part in various construction
activities including masonry, carpentry and painting, molding blocks,
plastering the walls, digging the soak away, fixing doors and windows,
and bringing sand and water.
During the project, there will be also some social and educational
activities with the local children and teenagers which the volunteers
will plan and organise.

The chief of the locality is a very active young man who fights for the development of the village. The village is also remarkable with its natural environment and its cultural diversity.

Help renovate The Artisanal Center
of Kpalime and explore local arts

Volunteer project: The Artisanal Center of Kpalimé is located on the road of Missahohoe. It becomes successively Cooperative of the craftsmen of Kloto in 1966, and then Artisanal Center of Kpalimé in 1968. The school of artistic and artisanal teaching of Kpalimé offers variety of courses. Among the different workshops are: wood carving, batik - painting, macramé - sewing, ceramics and sewing. The college also shelters a center of computer sciences. It is one of the best places to obtain objects of art in tropical woods: ebony, teak, and mahogany.
The objective of the project is not only to make the Artisanal center of Kpalimé more attractive and a real cultural and artistic space but also to offer a healthy environment to the staff, the craftsmen, the pupils and the visitors as well.
The volunteers will be involved in renovation and
artistic production work in the Artisanal center of Kpalimé. The planned
project activities include:
- Cleaning the façade of the center,
- Artistic decoration of the wall of the fence;
- Creation of indicative panels;
- Setting up trash cans;
- Clearing the garden for games and cultural spectacles: planting of
young plants, flowers and lawns; if possible, setting up seats in the
garden.
- Staging a play of a popular education nature (environment, culture)
followed by African dances.
- Other artistic activities such as percussion, batik, and ceramics …
You will be daily in contact with the craftsmen who are going to share
with you their knowledge; pupils of the center are going to surprise you
with their artisanal and artistic maturity. The boutiques containing
numerous objects will impress you!

Raising awareness on HIV/AIDS and
malaria in rural communities

Volunteer project: This project aims to raise awareness on the dangers of STD/HIV/AIDS and malaria in rural communities of Togo, and to promote a real change in attitudes and behaviors. The project is based in the canton of Tove in Kloto prefecture.
The volunteers will get a training course on STD/HIV/AIDS and malaria.
Then, they will train in turn young people of the village who will
become peer educators. These young people will help the international
volunteers in raising public awareness and will ensure the
sustainability of the project after the departure of the international
participants.
The volunteers will get involved in social mobilisation and awareness
campaign in the community. They will pass from house to house in small
groups to discuss and exchange information with the population on
STD/HIV/AIDS and malaria issues. The volunteers will also write and
stage plays whose topics will be related to STD/HIV/AIDS and malaria.
The volunteers will also organise activities in public places in order
to raise awareness among the local population. The awareness campaign
may spread in several neighboring villages. The means of the campaign
will be debate rounds, games, drama, distribution of condoms,
information leaflets and posters.

Peace education project
Akpadape, Kloto

Volunteer project: The aim of the volunteer project is to develop the culture of peace in the community of Akpadapé.
The first phase of the project will be exchange and
sharing between the volunteers and the actors of local development to
establish a work document on non violence and necessary strategies for
the implementation of the peace education project. During the workshops,
the different shapes of violence will be pointed out, and those in
relation with the local communities. How can one manage to solve them?
Which activities should be planned? This phase can last 3 to 5 days.
The second phase consists of identification and mobilization of the
young people to implement the activities conceived in the 1st phase. In
this phase, the volunteers will work with the village actors of
development to sensitize the young on the culture of peace by the means
of talks, workshops, song, sketch, tale, theater, sport.
In the last phase, the volunteers will present the activities and run an
awareness campaign during which the population and the local and
administrative authorities will be invited.

Support the development of
mentally handicapped children in Atakpame

Volunteer project: This project is special because the international volunteers will be working with children who are mentally handicapped. These children are neglected in the local communities. They are not accepted by the society and are often passed for burden or curse for their families. The goal of the center is to facilitate the integration of the mentally handicapped children by offering them school education and/or professional training considering their abilities. But the children don't get enough care during the summer holidays. It is important to take actions for the good education and training of those children in order to secure the best future for them. Everybody who cares for these children and is devoted to their needs is welcome to join this project.
The general objective of the project is Promoting the development and self-fulfillment of the children by means of instructive and playful activities. The volunteers will supervise and lead the children in games and playful situations of educational and instructive nature. The children will take part in these various activities in order to discover another way of learning.
The international group of volunteers will be
involved in guiding the children in different activities and workshops
like drawing, painting and modeling, singing and dance, tales, sketches,
sport, etc. The volunteers can present typical cultural aspects of their
country such as songs, dances, games, etc. At the end of the project,
the volunteers often organize a presentation of the activities realized
in the square of the village.
The volunteers will work 5 hours a day from Monday to Friday and the
afternoons can be dedicated to cultural exchange according to the agenda
defined by the group.
This project is dedicated exclusively to the activities with children. It is open to volunteers who have the abilities and/or the will to work with mentally handicapped children and who can accept their peculiarities. The volunteers must show availability, patience and understanding. The volunteers will work in close collaboration with skilled teachers of the center Envol.

Surrounded by several hills, at a height of 500 m, it was a place of trades between the peoples of the coastal regions of the Gulf of Benin and those from inside the land. The habits and customs are protected in this place. Every clan group possesses one or several divinities to which sacrifices are offered. Be there to get to know better the African culture, and especially to discover how Togo managed to stay authentic and traditional. Volunteer project: The aim of the volunteer project is Promoting the autochthonous culture in the village of Badja through the realization of socio-cultural and artistic activities in the community.
The project plans the creation of various activities
in favor of the young in the village:
- Creation of a theatre group;
- Production of plays inspired by the daily realities in rural and urban
areas;
- Innovation of the games traditionally practiced and that are today
disappearing;
- Setting up new games;
- Creation of a group of ballet and choreography;
- Playing of djembe (drums) and African dances (especially Ewe);
- Making artistic objects (baskets, calabashes, bags …);
- Organizing competitions with prizes.

Volunteer project: Poverty, especially in rural areas, has led to very negative impact on the environment in Africa, and in particular in Togo, because poverty often leads to exploiting natural resources rather than trying to preserve them. In the rural areas of Togo, some agricultural practices have had heavy consequences for the environment. Moreover, wood trade and mining are the principal means of survival for the population. Consequently, the forest reserves are practically disappearing.
The objective of the international volunteer project is to support the fight against the destruction of the environment in the rural areas of Togo. The volunteers will be involved in reforestation and awareness campaign against deforestation.
Volunteers' tasks consist of watering the plants;
cleaning up the areas to afforest;
planting trees; installation of advertising panels for the safeguard of
the environment ; awareness campaign (talks, sketches, etc.) on the
environment (bush fire, domestic garbage management, etc.).
The volunteers will also take part in social and educational activities
with children and teenagers of the village, with a particular accent on
environmental education. The group will also join some communal
activities with the villagers.

French). The project allows the participating pupils to be up to date in
the new school year. It allows the younger children to begin socializing
at school and learn syllabification, writing and counting. These
supporting courses are especially important for the pupils of the rural
areas which have fewer assets (lack of socio-educational
infrastructures) than those from the cities. That is why the rural
communities are the privileged targets for these activities.
The project aims to improve the knowledge and the abilities of the
pupils in primary and secondary school for a better school resumption.
Educational material will be at the volunteers' disposal and you will be introduced to the educational program of the country. Essentially, you will play the role of a primary or secondary school teacher. In the primary level, you will intervene in French (reading, writing, conjugation, written and oral expression, etc.) and in calculation.
